Editor's Update

Following publication of Doorways in the Night in 2004 and the subsequent publication of Mind Machine in 2006, several of the contributors to both of these works have met as the Local Voices Writing Group to create prose and poetry, and to discuss the world of writing – with a special emphasis on mental health. It is my hope that "Local Voices" and its philosophy of expression, in prose or poetry, for those who have experienced mental distress, continues and grows.

I therefore warmly invite anyone who writes – on the topic of mental health or associated themes – to submit short works or poetry for publication on the Local Voices Website. Any work submitted will show copyright indication (please follow the link to view a note about copyright rules with regard to the internet) and email me if you have queries about this.

Intervoice are planning a book on people's experience of hearing voices.
You are invited to submit your personal story

Jean Davison says:

I want to tell you about my writing success. My memoir, 'The Dark Threads', is due to be published by Accent Press in August 2009. It is about my experiences of being a casualty of the narrow medical perspective of conventional psychiatry in the late-1960s and early-1970s. Most of what happened to me then is still very much relevant to psychiatry today. Click on the book cover - right - or the link below for more information.
